Ballistic Skill (BS) is a Characteristic in Rogue Trader. Characteristics represent a player’s raw ability in a variety of mental and physical areas. Every Archetype grants you the chance to increase the value of certain Characteristics by reaching a certain rank. Some Skill values can be increased by increasing certain Characteristics.
Ballistic Skill Description
Ballistic Skill measures a character's accuracy with all forms of ranged weapons. A high Ballistic Skill indicates a character is an excellent marksman, someone to be rightly feared in a fire-fight or shootout.
When attacking with a firearm, the character must make a Ballistic Skill characteristic test. For this test, the distance between the shooter and the target, the range of the weapon, as well as bonuses that affect hit chance (items, talents, and some abilities) are taken into account. If successful, the target will try to dodge the attack — the chance of a successful dodge depends on the difference between the target's Agility and the shooter's Perception in addition to any dodge bonuses. Also, if the target is behind cover, it will give them a chance to avoid the attack. If the target fails to dodge or take cover, they suffer damage.
