A Measure of Wealth
For the enterprising Rogue Trader, wealth is the least of their concerns—something so banal as keeping track of individual finances is beyond them. Thus it is easier and more accurate to describe the wealth of a dynasty, of a Rogue Trader, in terms of profit factor.
Unlike sums of thrones, which the Rogue Trader shall be in possession of in excess, the measure of a dynasty and its head is through their business relations, their holdings, what reputation they wield, and so on. They measure prosperity by a list of contacts and partners with which they might broker trade deals, obtain vast sums of resources or even the weight of requisition needed to raise entire armies to do their bidding. Thus it is impossible to quantify or even put a noticeable dent into the coffers of a dynasty and its Lord Captain unless something on a truly grand scale afflicts the dynasty.
In theory, even the poorest Rogue Trader has an almost infinite source of wealth as the common folk might understand it and thus never need worry about individual procurements of items, weapons, armor or the like.
Reputation
Greater than the measure of a dynasty’s wealth, than the coffers of a Rogue Trader, is the weight of their name and the reputation it carries. Whether they are fair and generous or if they are cruel and callous, each plays a factor into the grander sphere of the Koronus Expanse. Sometimes much more so than any amount of wealth could hope to achieve. Thus making the culmination of a mighty, reliable reputation with a particular merchant or series of merchants often more valuable than gold, platinum or even the Writ of Trade itself. But reputation is a far more fickle thing than mere commerce, so much that it is often confusing for people to try and understand it.
First and foremost, you can gain the trust of vendors in the Koronus Expanse by providing them with cargo you find on your journeys. Armor, weapons, books and so much more. This will increase your reputation and expand the vendor's stocks. Doing so will unlock your ability to procure greater and greater items with the appropriate Profit Factor, as merchants and factions come to trust you as a business partner more and more. And once you have found your footing after the first chapter of the game, you will be able to access all the trade contacts you have met in your journey from the High Factorum on your voidship’s bridge.
However, the reputation garnered with one merchant or faction will not carry sway with another—competitors to the end.
In the game, there are five major factions with which you can engage in commerce and build a reputation as well as numerous unaligned merchants. These factions are as follows: the Cult of Saint Drusus, the Explorator Fleet, the Kasballica Mission, the Fellowship of the Void, and the Imperial Navy.
Please see the Reputation page to check which items are unlocked with different reputation levels, and how to gain reputation with different factions.
Drusians
Followers of the Cult of Saint Drusus who believe in continuing Mankind's Crusade and bringing new worlds into the Imperium's fold. They adhere to principles of asceticism and high moral standards. Most of all, they value sacred relics and artefacts. Their representative, Reverend Hieronymus Doloroso, can be found in the Atrium on Footfall.
Explorators
Emissaries of the Machine Cult, exploring the galaxy on their Explorator Fleets, powerful and full of resources, commanding countless serfs, servitors, and adepts. They seek long-lost technologies, hoping to unravel their secrets. This means they will be eager to buy any archeotech you will be willing to part with. Their Tech-Priest, Opticon-22, conducts business in the Footfall void dock, Alpha-Rho.
Kasballica Mission
One of the most successful crime syndicates in the Imperium, specializing in the smuggling and trade of illicit goods. Its specialty is the Cold Trade of forbidden xenos artefacts. Vladaym Tocara is their official representative residing in Liege's Residence on Footfall.
Fellowship of the Void
A loose alliance of pirate factions from the Koronus Expanse. They hold nothing sacred and fear no authority, ready to defy even the mightiest of Rogue Traders and the Emperor's servants. Their spokesperson, Ryzza Calvaria, will readily take even the most unsavoury cargo off your hands. The Adeptus Amasecus on Footfall is rumoured to be her favourite haunt.
The Imperial Navy
An ancient and monumental organisation with the power to shatter star systems and destroy entire civilisations, the mightiest star fleet in the galaxy, yet stretched thin across the vastness of the Imperium. Here in the Koronus Expanse, Commander-Captain Servus Thorfast, Squadron Leader of the Imperial Navy, is pleased to see a mighty Rogue Trader somewhere in the void of the Furibundus System.

Profit Factor
Once a rapport is built up with a contact, it comes time to open one’s coffers and pull forth from your assets to procure what has caught your eye. But for the Rogue Trader, individualistic purchasing of gear, items, weapons or anything lower than their loftier dynastic commercial endeavors could never hope to dent their bank account. Of course, to keep track of what assets they have and can bring to bear on a purchase, the method to measure one’s wealth can be described in the simple term of Profit Factor.
Profit factor (PF) is a measure of a Rogue Trader's wealth and power, the aggregated value of their income, loans, treasury reserves, and exalted status. Profit factor acts as a replacement for conventional currency and is used for all of the Rogue Trader's purchases from grenades to planetary improvements. Buying items does not reduce your profit factor. Rather, its value serves as a threshold that determines your access to certain purchases and opportunities.
Profit factor is a numerical value that can increase or, on rarer occasions, decrease.
- PF can never drop below 0.
- If an action requires you to reduce your PF below 0, that action becomes unavailable.
- PF has no upper limit.
You can increase your profit factor by:
- Completing story quests
- Selecting certain dialogue options
- Fulfilling contracts
- Completing colony projects
You can cause your profit factor to decrease by:
- Completing story quests
- Selecting certain dialogue options
- Fulfilling contracts
- Launching colony projects
Profit Factor in Rogue Trader is a game mechanic that represents the Explorers' wealth, power, influence and other resources. Profit Factor means that a Rogue Trader character doesn't really need to track “pocket money.” The group's Profit Factor determines their relative success, meaning that the players can track how far they have come, or discover how far they need to go to reach their goal. Naturally, the higher the group's Profit Factor, the more resources at their disposal. Towards the higher end of the scale, the Rogue Trader dynasty may control a fleet of starships, own entire planets, or establish a legend that shall be remembered for millennia.
In the Rogue Trader CRPG game, you gain profit factor by certain dialogue options, developing your colonies, or completing Contracts.

In Rogue Trader, reputation determines the willingness to trade of a certain group. You can increase your reputation by donating your loot or other cargo items to them. There are five different groups in the Koronus Expanse.
