Armour in Rogue Trader is the equipment that every character wears in order to resist or reduce incoming damage from Enemies. Every time a character is attacked, their Armour must exceed the hostile attack dice in order to fully resist damage taken. Armour usually affects the movement of the character wearing it, as the heavier the Armour, the lower the chances to dodge attacks. It's always wise to see what's convenient for every party member according to their class and background, to learn what types of Armour suits them better.
What are the Armour Categories in Rogue Trader?
In Rogue Trader Armour is divided into three categories:
- Light Armour: Light armour allows the character to dodge attacks better, but blocks significantly less damage than medium and heavy armour.
- Medium Armour: Medium armour blocks more damage if the character is hit,
but reduces their mobility and ability to dodge attacks. - Heavy Armour: In addition to the Armour and Dodge Penalty parameters, heavy armour also has a unique parameter — Deflection, which reduces the damage received by the specified value. Heavy armour protects well from damage, but it is more difficult to dodge attacks in it than in light and medium armour. Only characters with the Heavy Armour Proficiency talent can wear heavy armour.

Given the nature of CRPG's it's very important to understand how each component of the game's armour system works. If you look at the stats that an armour part shows you will first find its Armour value, Armour is one of the parameters that reduces the incoming Damage. It shows the percentage of Damage that is reduced by the character's armour and is deducted after Damage Deflection every time the character is hit. Some armours will also have a Dodge Penalty that will be substracted from your Dodge Roll. Lastly, heavy armours will also provide a Deflection score, representing the amount of damage deducted from a hit to your character. Note that enemies will also have a Deflection Negation that reduces your own score.
Dodge is a skill that helps negate damage from melee and ranged attacks. If the character is attacked, they will automatically try to dodge the attack no matter what weapon he was attacked with, Base Dodge Chance is 30 + (Target Agility - Enemy's perception). This chance can also be affected by abilities and effects that influence Dodge chance, as well as depending on the character's Dodge Reduction.
