Echo of the Past is a Companion Quest in Warhammer 40k: Rogue Trader. Echo of the Past can be acquired in Act 1. This quest begins as you enter Von Valancius Flagship. You then speak to "Theodora" and as she leads you to Idira Tlass who has lost control over her abilities, "Theodora" transforms and a battle ensues.

Echo of the Past Information Rogue Trader

A message has come to the bridge reporting that the departed Rogue Trader has appeared on the ship. The name Idira Tlass was mentioned, an unsanctioned psyker. The Lord Captain must act to find out what is happening and to neutralise the potential threat.

Rogue Trader Echo of the Past Walkthrough

A couple of warp jumps into act 2, unless Idira Tlass has been permanently removed from the party, Vox Master Vigdis will inform you that there have been sightings of Theodora aboard the voidship. Regardless of how the situation is resolved in dialogue, during the next void jump you will be told that Idira went after the sighting. You can either investigate personally or send enforcers. Sending enforcers does not have any effect and will give you two options: deal with it personally or depressurize the compartment when exiting warp. If you choose to depresurize it the quest will be skipped but you will lose Idira.

If you choose to investigate it you will get a party selection screen, letting you pick everyone except Idira. You will automatically go to the Macro-Cannon Chamber. Passing through the first doorway, you will see a daemonic Theodora.

Choosing to attack her will not work. Respond as you like and then continue. Get close to the crates at the top of the stairs and if someone's Awareness is high enough you will uncover some loot. Continue down the stairs to the opposite end of the room where you will find Theodora searching for Idira. Go to the next set of stairs and she will find and speak with Idira.

If Argenta is in the party she will take aim at Idira and bring two options:

  1. [Dogmatic] [Let Argenta act]
  2. [Iconoclast] "Argenta! Stop!"

Major choice: If Argenta kills Idira she will be put almost completely on the Zealot character development path and can only receive a different conclusion for her final quest if every other choice throughout her quests was made for another path.

If you choose the second option, Argenta will lower her weapon but she doesn't completely put it away. You will then have a few more options to handle this situation:

  1. [Requires: having asked Vigdis about Idira] "Idira, snap out of it. For Vigdis. She is going out of her mind with worry about you." - Idira will help you in the fight
  2. [Coercion] "Idira! Snap out of it, or I'll shoot you myself!" - Idira will help you in the fight if successful
  3. [Persuasion] "Idira! I am your captain, not her! Listen to me and snap out of it!" - Idira will help you in the fight if successful
  4. [Kill Idira] - Idira dies
  5. [Watch what happens] - Idira will be unconscious during the fight

Major choice: Mentioning Vigdis is required to allow her and Idira to mend their friendship.

Regardless of what happens to Idira, Theodora will turn into a Pink Horror, two other workers will turn into Blue Horrors and all other workers will become hostile.

Once you've cleared out all the enemies in the area you will have a conversation with Idira. There are 5 ways to end the conversation:

  1. "I want to help you, Idira. We'll think of something." - pushes Idira towards the Accepted path and changes some of her dialogue.
  2. "Your worries do not interest me, but as long as you keep yourself under control and remain useful, you will live." - pushes Idira towards the Rejected path and changes some of her dialogue.
  3. "I'm not going to kill you, but keeping you in the crew is dangerous. You'll be put under guard and escorted from the ship at the first orbital stop we come to." - Idira leaves the party.
  4. [Dogmatic] [Kill Idira] "Die, heretic." - Idira is killed.
  5. [Requires: Argenta] [Dogmatic] "Sister Argenta, do your duty." - requires Argenta to be in the party and will put her completely into the Zealot character development path unless every other choice in her character quests was taken towards one of the other two routes. Idira is killed.

At the end of the quest Vox Master Vigdis will contact you. If Idira is alive you will have two last choices:

  1. [Requires: Pushed Idira towards the Accepted path earlier] "I got rid of the warp's illusions. Idira is alive — bring her to the chirurgeons and have them see to her." - Idira lives
  2. [Requires: Pushed Idira towards the Rejected path earlier] "I got rid of the psyker's creations. Idira is alive — see that she gets medical attention, and then put a guard on her. If she succumbs to the warp's influence again — shoot her without warning." - Idira lives
  3. "Everyone who was on the deck is dead, including the attackers. What happened was entirely the fault of Idira Tlass. Dispatch servitors here and put her out through an airlock, I am sick of her antics." - Idira dies

After the conversation the quest will end. Loot everything, including a locked crate that was behind Idira and Theodora that contains Warp Conductor Gloves. After the quest if Idira is alive you can talk with her on the bridge about what happened.
