The Chasm is a main Quest in Warhammer 40k: Rogue Trader. The Chasm can be acquired in Act 3. The Chasm follows the story of the Rogue Trader's arduous ascent out from the shadows of the Dark City, after all the suffering that had befallen him in the events of the previous Quests. Main Quests in Rogue Trader tackle the story itself, where the player must make a decision in order to complete the quest and pursue a desired path. Quests are generally social, where the protagonist talks to an NPC and Companions to negotiate a situation, to help an ally, or to confront an enemy. Completing a Quest usually gives a reward such as XP, Equipment, the chance to recruit a Companion, and/or access to a new Location.

 

The Chasm Information Rogue Trader

The Rogue Trader was unlucky enough to end up in the part of Commorragh called the Chasm. To escape the Dark City, the Lord Captain first will need to break free from this place drenched in suffering and peril.

  1. Bring Malice the Commissar's head
  2. Enter the dimensional portal
  3. Survive the battle
  4. Find the maestro of flesh
  5. Talk to the Bloodstained Proselytes
  6. Win the Arena battle
  7. Report the victory to Tervantias
  8. Finish off the Wych Keykeross
  9. Kill Malice (if sided with the Commissar)

 

Rogue Trader The Chasm Walkthrough

This quest begins as soon as One Foot in the Grave ends. If you look immediately left of you on the platform you're on you'll find a Medicae test to examine a gladiator's wounds. If you pass it you will gain Veteran's Electro Graft, Flak Armour and Stub Revolver. Go north into the middle platform and you will find a gladiators' pile, which will contain various types of weapons. In the center of the map you'll find Malice's room, with whom you can talk more about the current situation. Walk into the next platform. If you have sufficient Awareness you will find a switch you can use to rotate a pillar and get some more equipment. Return to the middle platform and exit the pit.

After returning to the chasm you will pass by a chest on the left. Then continue forward. If Yrliet has not been killed or permanently removed from the party you will encounter her again and she will join you if you don't kill or reject her. You can go forward if you want but the story will take you there later anyway so it is recommended to go back to the lower levels of the chasm instead, where you came from. Throughout the map you will find loot that wasn't present when you first passed through. Near the end if you did not kill the Ugly Beggar yet you will find it again. At the lowest level you will find an elevator that will take you to the Mangled Sector.

Once in the Mangled Sector, just right of the elevator there is an Athletics test to retrieve a locked safe. If you can open it you will gain various types of equipment. Then go west to find various kinds of cargo loot, as well as Abelard if he was with you when you were captured. Then go north, where if you manage to pass a Lore (Xenos) test on the body at the top you will be able to loot Cameleoline Skin. At the right edge of the map you will find the Commissar. If Argenta was with you when you were captured she will rejoin you here. You will have two options:

  • If you attack the Commissar and Argenta is with you she will be against the idea but you can convince her to side with you. A fight will start with the Commissar and everyone around. When you are done loot everyone. Return to the Pit and speak with Malice. He will reveal he lied to you and you will be taken to the arena.
  • If you side with the Commissar he will explain to you his escape plan and you will be instructed to kill Malice. Return to the Pit, speak with Malice and tell him of your intent to kill him. Two turns into the battle the Commissar and his men will join. After the fight loot everyone. If you interact with Malice you'll notice he's still alive. Enter the portal behind the Commissar and you will be taken to the arena and find out he betrayed you.

You will see a cutscene introducing Ulfar. Next you will have to fight in the arena against two Wild Khymera who will always get the first turn. The four prisoners who were with the Commissar will fight with you but those who survive the battle will turn on you and you'll have to kill them.

Go back to the portal. If Argenta is with you you will have a bonus scene where she tries to save a sergeant. The only way to actually save him is to be Iconoclast - Votary and have a ranged weapon equipped.

Back in the chasm you will encounter the solitaire again. You can ask him for help where to find your companions that got captured. If you ask him what to do next the solitaire will speak in riddles but if you are Iconoclast - Adherent you can decipher his riddle and know where to go next. There is some loot in the area, including a few stairs you can extend to small reaver jet bikes platforms with Tech-Use to loot the bikes.

If Pasqal was in the party when you got captured head back to the end of the lower level to find him again. Otherwise go to the upper levels, looting everything you can pass the Tech-Use tests for. At the top you will find the first warp stifler if you have received the The Worm Churns quest. Interact with either the Wrack or the door to open it. If Yrliet was not in the party at the beginning of the chapter, speaking with the Wrack further will reveal he is Achilleas. You can kill the Wrack if you want. 

Enter the Anatomical Opera. There you will meet Tervantias the Archmachinator, who will extract the parasite from you. If you praise his work you will receive Punishment for Misseps. If you refuse to cooperate with him he will kill you and reanimate you. If you refuse again you will receive a game over screen. At the end of the conversation you will receive your gear back so reequip all companions. If Idira was in the party when you got captured she will appear now. If you ask Tervantias about your companions that aren't currently with you, ask him to release them and kneel before him he will let you choose one. Choosing Idira will merely let you bypass the skill tests to recruit her so it is not recommended.

One of the cages on the right will have Ulfar. If you speak with him you will gain the Fury in Chains quest.

You can ask for Tervantias the Archmachinator's help. He will agree to help you once for each of the following items that you bring:

  • Veteran's Electro Graft - obtained by passing a Medicae test on a wounded gladiator in the Pit
  • Cameleoline Skin - obtained by passing a Lore (Xenos) test on the body at the top of Mangled Sector
  • Arena Beast's Claws - obtained by looting a Khymera after the first arena fight
  • Arena Beast's Claws - obtained by looting a Khymera after the first arena fight
  • Wrack's Macrosteroidal Gland - obtained by killing the Wrack at the entrance of the Anatomical Opera
  • Aebys's Neuro-Agoniser - obtained by looting Bloodstained Proselyte after the second arena fight
  • Commissar's Head - obtained by killing the Commissar or looting it from him after the second arena fight if forced into the arena
  • Malice's Hide - obtained by killing Malice or looting it from him after the second arena fight if forced into the arena
  • Marazhai's Nerve Fibres - obtained by killing Marazhai in the second arena fight
  • Scourge's Adrenal Glands - obtained by passing all the skill checks in the book event after the second arena fight
  • Argenta's Heart - obtained by killing her at any point
  • Jae's Eyes - obtained when you leave the Anatomical Opera if you abandon her
  • Pasqal's Respiratory System - obtained by killing Pasqal when you encounter him
  • Cassia's Third Eye - obtained by killing Cassia when you encounter her
  • Heinrix's Cortex - obtained by killing Heinrix when you encounter him
  • Yrliet's Spirit Stone - obtained by killing Yrliet when you encounter her or in Chapter 2
  • If Yrliet is present you can skip giving him anything the first time

Once you give him what he wants you can pick the following replies:

  1. "I shall need equipment if I am to kill your enemies." - will give the following items: Blackhaze Venom Blade, Glimmersteel Blade, Exoskeletal Gloves, Freerunner Boots, Dark Swiftness x2, Haemonculus' Injector x2.
  2. "My condition has been rather grave since my arrival in Commorragh. Can you mend my body?" - heals injuries and traumas
  3. [Requires: Abelard has the Stolen Time effect] "I met a monster in the Mangled Sector, a creature that can steal years of its victims' lives and mutilate their bodies. Are you able to heal that?" - Abelard loses the Stolen Time effect
  4. [Requires: Jae has the Death Rattle effect] "You took my companion's respiratory augment and now she's dying. Return it immediately." - Jae loses the Death Rattle effect
  5. [Requires: Fury in Chains quest] "I would like to take the Space Marine you keep in a cage." - gives Bone Key
  6. [Requires: Won the second arena fight] "Seeing as you are abandoning your lair, would you be willing to share some of your creations with me?" - will give the following items: Blackhaze Venom BladeGlimmersteel BladeExoskeletal GlovesFreerunner BootsDark Swiftness x2, Haemonculus' Injector x2, Pitch-Black Desolator, Ceramite Xeno Chestplate, Heartseekers Gloves, Swashbuckler's Goggles, Prey Scanner, Ossificator x2, Wraithbone Grenade x3

You can also tell Tervantias the Archmachinator you want to know more about him and his craft. This will let you start the The Chtonos and Scalpel, Needles, and Sutures quests.

On the top of the platform behind Tervantias the Archmachinator you will find Marazhai and Aebys. Speak with any of them to talk to them both.

Major choice: If you choose the right dialogue you can influence Marazhai to join you later.

  1. [Address Aebys] "So you and your rabble are the champions of the local arena?"
  2. "So Marazhai was skinned and made to fight like this? Well, that is a balm to my heart. And also a delight to my eyes, where something was still stirring a while ago."
  3. [Snap the Elucidator shut and address Marazhai] "Your kin do not seem overly fond of you." - can convince Marazhai to join you later
  4. [Snap the Elucidator shut and address Marazhai] "I want to talk. To you." - can convince Marazhai to join you later
  5. [Address Marazhai] "I just wanted to get a proper look at you. Humiliated, stripped of everything you were. And later... later I shall find a way to kill you." - cannot convince Marazhai to join you later
  6. [Address all the Drukhari in front of you] "Know this — I will kill each and every one of you! And I do not care if you are champions or not!" - cannot convince Marazhai to join you later

When you're ready, head back into the Chasm and return to the large portal leading to the Arena. If Argenta is in the party then before entering the portal she will want to confess something. If you allow her to say it you will find out she was the one who killed Theodora.

Major choice: If Idira is in the party she will try to kill Argenta. How you react will affect Idira's character development path:

  1. [Do nothing to stop Idira] - pushes Idira on the Rejected path, Argenta dies, and you receive Argenta's Heart
  2. "Do your duty Idira. The von Valancius blood will be avenged." - pushes Idira on the Rejected path, Argenta dies, and you receive Argenta's Heart
  3. "Idira, stop! Stop this instant!"
  4. [Requires: Told Idira to stop] "Idira, you are blinded by grief. Stop. None of us is perfect." - pushes Idira on the Accepted path and gives you a chance to push Argenta on the Order path
  5. [Requires: Told Idira to stop] "Stop. I order you." - pushes Idira on the Rejected path

You will have two fights in the arena. The first fight will be against generic drukhari enemies. The second fight will be against Aebys and Marazhai. Before the battle you will have the following dialogue options:

  1. "I was told I would be facing untested fighters, not the champions of the arena!"
  2. [Requires: Told Marazhai earlier he can join you] [Look Marazhai in the eye] "My offer still stands. Would you consider switching sides?" - Marazhai joins you
  3. [Attack] "You will answer for everything you have wrought!" - Marazhai fights with the drukhari
  4. [Attack] "In the name of the God-Emperor!" - Marazhai fights with the drukhari

After the battle, loot the enemies and then return to the Chasm. If Marazhai joined you you will receive the Suspicious Absence quest if two of the following three companions are in the party: Ulfar, Argenta, Heinrix. Go there to finish recruiting Marazhai, then go back to the Anatomical Opera. Near the entrance you will receive a book event with multiple skill tests. Every failed skill test will give an Old Injury. If you pass all skill tests you will receive Sweet Perdition and can loot Scourge's Adrenal Glands.

Enter the Anatomical Opera and speak to Tervantias the Archmachinator. All bridges in the Anatomical Opera will be extended, letting you loot them and recover the companions you haven't already recovered. Near Ulfar's cage there will not be an interactive panel you can use to create a bridge to another platform with 3 chests.

Once you exit the Anatomical Opera you will have to fight a lot of enemies led by a Grotesque. Compared to the arena this fight shouldn't be difficult. After the fight you will be approached by the solitaire again. As before, he will speak in riddles but if you are Iconoclast - Adherent you will be able to decipher his riddle. Loot everyone and head for the arena. If you have the The Worm Churns quest proceed through it before going to the arena.

Once you go to the arena you will have one last talk with the Wrack. If Yrliet was not in the party at the beginning of the chapter and you discovered that the Wrack is Achilleas you can offer him to come with you. He will aid you during the arena fights.

In the arena you will face multiple fights. Between each fight the party will heal.

  1. 1 Skilled Beastmaster and 2 Khymera Fiend
  2. 1 Sslyth Military Artist
  3. 1 Perfect Specimen
  4. 1 Keykeross, 1 Agonis Pain Engine, 2 Wych Guardian and 3 Incubus Guardian

After the fight the quest will end. If you redeemed the Commissar and he survived you will have one last conversation with him.
