The Emperor and My Right is a Main Quest in Warhammer 40k: Rogue Trader. The Emperor and My Right can be acquired in Act 2 which tackles one of the hardships faced by the Rogue Trader as the heir to Theodora's legacy. The Emperor and My Right progresses simultaneously with Blades in the Void, which is another Main Quest in Rogue Trader. Main Quests in Rogue Trader tackle the story itself, where the player must make a decision in order to complete the quest and pursue a desired path. Quests are generally social, where the protagonist talks to an NPC and Companions to negotiate a situation, to help an ally, or to confront an enemy. Completing a Quest usually gives a reward such as XP, Equipment, the chance to recruit a Companion, and/or access to a new Location.

The Emperor and My Right Information Rogue Trader

The Von Valanacius protectorate is emerging from a crisis but that means it is once again an interesting prospect for external predators. To avoid leading the major players of the Koronus Expanse into temptation, the Rogue Trader should assert his right to Theodora's legacy.

Proceeding with this quest will end trading with merchants until chapter 4 so it's recommended to sell and buy everything you want before proceeding through the quest.

Warhammer 40k: Rogue Trader The Emperor and My Right Objectives

  1. Talk to the Vox Master
  2. Talk to the master of ceremonies
  3. Enjoy the reception
  4. Have a difficult conversation

Rogue Trader The Emperor and My Right Walkthrough

The quest begins as soon as you open the Koronus Expanse map after finishing the Reclaim What Was Lost quest. Vox Master Vigdis will inform you of the gratitude of all noble houses for restoring the protectorate and of the upcoming ceremony on Dargonus to officially succeed Theodora von Valancius.

the emperor and my right screen1 quest warhammer 40k rogue trader wiki guide

Afterwards Vigdis will ask what festivities to take place.

Major choice: The choice will affect a scene at the celebration. Letting the people decide for themselves will have the same result as picking Iconoclast but without the +3 conviction bonus.

  1. [Iconoclast] "Let the poor be fed and fuel cells handed out to those in need. My reign shall begin with an act of benevolence."
  2. [Dogmatic] "Execute every known embezzler, scoundrel, and conman. I will begin my reign by purging my realm of vermin."
  3. [Dogmatic] "I wish to hear prayers and witness the people's faith."
  4. [Heretical] "Now what does the rabble like to see... Give out enough amasec for everyone and hold fights between tougher serfs."
  5. "Let them decide for themselves, both on this matter and the rest."

Next you will have to choose two Companions who will accompany you during the celebrations.

Major choice: The companions you pick will give a permanent bonus to all colonies. You can also choose to have only one companion or none at all but this will not provide any benefit

  1. Abelard gives +1 Efficiency
  2. Heindrix gives +2 Security
  3. Idira gives +2 Complacency and -1 Security
  4. Yrliet gives +1All
  5. Argenta gives +1 Complacency
  6. Jae gives +1 All and increases her Trust
  7. Cassia gives +2 Complacency
  8. Pasqal gives +2 Efficiency

After you make the choice of companions, the conversation with the Vox Master will end. If the Classified Information quest has been completed you will be approached by either Pasqal or Zi-Ra-Tallar and you will have a conversation with him about the ship's spirit and gain the following options.

Major choice: Can lock you out of the secret endings.

  1. [Requires: Pasqal] "Very well. Let us proceed with the ritual." - can get the secret endings
  2. [Requires: Pasqal] "I will not waste my time on this. Deal with it yourself." - cannot get the secret endings
  3. [Requires: No Pasqal] "Thank you for your report and service, Drivesmaster." - cannot get the secret endings
  4. [Requires: No Pasqal] "And you thought a trifle like that was worth my time? Off with you!" - cannot get the secret endings

Go to the Von Valancius Palace on Dargonus. Inside the throne room speak with Master of Ceremonies. If you ask him if he has been entrusted with arranging the festivities it will increase your standing with the Sauerback family. Finally, tell him to begin the ceremony.

You will be shown a cutscene of the festivities you chose when you spoke with Vox Master Vigdis, followed by a scene of Rogue Trader being introduced to the crowds by Master of Ceremonies, the two companions chosen earlier close behind them. You will first address your people.

  1. [Dogmatic] "Praise the Emperor, faithful souls! The darkness around us may be fierce, but the blaze in our hearts is fiercer still! Evil will burn!"
  2. [Iconoclast] "Fear not the coming day. Henceforth, you are all my charges."
  3. [Heretical] "Remember that you have no other ruler but me. For any who dare to forget this, the howls of daemons from the warp will sound like the babbling of babes, and xenos blades will seem like a soft feather bed compared to the horror of the punishment I'll inflict!"
  4. "Serve faithfully, and I will lead you to prosperity. The Kronus Expanse will enrich us all!"

You'll then be asked to make an oath as the heir to your Rogue Trader empire and will have just one dialogue option to click on. After the proceedings, you'll find yourself at the palace entrance and can explore the celebration.

In the courtyard you can find the following:

  • A Leman Russ tank with a Lore (Imperium) test to gain a little experience
  • A captive drukhari with a Lore (Xenos) test to gain a little experience
  • A firing range you can interact with

Major choice: Every single conversation throughout the rest of the quest has multiple effects on the story so it is highly suggested to use all dialogue options with every group.

In the courtyard you will find Abelard with a group of nobles. Interacting with any of them will bring a dialogue with everyone.

  1. [Look at the guests] - unlocks a Logic test to gain a little experience
  2. [Requires: Iconoclast - Follower] [Study the faces of the nobles in attendance]
  3. "I am ready to accept your congratulations" - gives Severed Hand, Coordinate Oracle and +1 Efficiency to all colonies
  4. "What were you discussing just now?" - if you keep talking about the xenos subject and at the end pick "Since young Gaprak is so inspired by the thought of conducting business with xenos, I shall take him into my service as a trade representative. His house shall see to it that he makes himself useful and that his service is beyond reproach." it will increase standing with the Gaprak family and Vicent Gaprak will join on the voidship bridge
  5. [Nod to the Inquisitor] "My greetings to the member of the Holy Inquisition." - completes the Warden of the Expanse rumor and unlocks an Awareness test to gain a little experience
  6. [Look at Abelard's young relative] "What is your name?" - unlocks the following dialogue options
    1. "How are you finding the reception." - if you have sufficient Perception you will unlock additional dialogue during Blood Ties
    2. "So you wish to become my servant as well?" - increases standing with the Werserian family as if you pass a Coercion test you will unlock the Void Beacons contract

Inside the palace, on the left side of the throne room, you will find Heinrix and members of the Gaprak and Sauerback families. Interacting with any of them will bring a dialogue with everyone.

  1. [Observe the guests]
  2. "How are you those days, Toriana?" - increases standing with the Gaprak family and unlocks a Perception test to gain a little experience
  3. "Macharius, I'm surprised you deigned to make an appearance here on this evening." - unlocks the following dialogue options
    1. "What has so displeased you, Macharius?" - increases standing with the Sauerback family
    2. "I would like to become better acquainted with your wife." - unlocks two skill tests to increase standing with the Sauerback family and unlock an additional dialogue choice during Blood Ties
  4. [Lean towards Heinrix] "Interesting conversation?" - Awareness test to gain a little experience

Inside the palace, on the right side of the throne room, you will find the other two rogue traders. The dialogue with them will depend on whether you sent food to Footfall or not. If you examine Vorten and pass all the skill checks you will unlock a new dialogue option that will help during Hunting Grounds. If you sent food to Footrall and address Calligos Winterscale he will offer you a gift and you will have the following dialogue options:

  1. "Thank you for such a wonderful gift, Calligos." - gives  Eye of Hecaton
  2. [Dogmatic] "Reverend, destroy this creation of detestable xenos." - gives +4 Dogmatic conviction

When you're ready to end the celebration, head to the Master of Ceremonies in the middle of this room and tell him that you're tired.

Major choice: If you have met all the requirements for the secret ending up till this point then when you tell the Master of Ceremonies you're finished he will point you to talk to a strange servitor that wanted to talk with you. You will find it in the top-right corner. Speaking with it is required to unlock the secret ending. Nomos will talk about your major conviction choices and describe to you his current conviction.

  • If Nomos is currently Iconoclast they will say "We envisage this larger notion as a light. A web of light that connects humans. It may seem almost invisible, ephemeral, but it grows stronger when they are threatened. This web is always on your mind. When darkness comes, you want every thread that extends from you to shine bright so that those who follow do not lose their way. Whenever a thread breaks, it saddens you. Do Nomos understand correctly?"
  • If Nomos is currently Dogmatic they will say "We envisage this larger notion as a flame. A blaze. It burns in your blood. You are holding a mote of this flame in your hand. No matter what decision you are faced with, you want it to burn brighter. Those who turn away from the flame must be destroyed. Those who follow it — who follow you — are the only ones who deserve to live. Do Nomos understand correctly?"
  • If Nomos is currently Heretical they will say "We envisage this larger notion as a liquid. A sticky, saccharine stream. It is like the dark light and the sated hunter and all else that is always watching us. You drink this liquid eagerly. You revel in it. It gives you strength, desires, energy, and courage. It beckons. It also consumes — those whom you cast aside, those who are weak, and those who get in the way. Do Nomos understand correctly?"
  • If Nomos has been pushed equally towards every conviction they will say "But we cannot understand what it is. Perhaps you will tell us?"

You will have three replies, one for each conviction. If the selected conviction does not match Nomos' you will have the option to pass a very difficult Coercion or Persuasion test to change Nomos' conviction.

When done with the ceremony, the Master of Ceremonies will accompany you to your chambers, where you will find Inquisitor Xavier Calcazar. Heinrix will knock out the Master of Ceremonies, or another aide will if Heinrix has been killed. Xavier Calcazar will talk with you about your past actions.

Major choice: How you reply to Xavier Calcazar will determine what reward or criticism you will receive from him.

When asking about Janus:

  1. [Requires: Killed the eldar and the Slaanesh coven] "Vistenza's misdeeds are a stain upon my dynasty's honour. I admit it." - Xavier Calcazar agrees
  2. [Requires: Killed the eldar and the Slaanesh coven] "Theodora was the one who appointed Vistenza. What does it have to do with me?" - Xavier Calcazar disagrees
  3. [Requires: Killed the eldar and the Slaanesh coven] "But now Janus is pure once more. You can see for yourself. There will be a palace and everything you desire waiting for you on the planet." - Xavier Calcazar disagrees
  4. [Requires: Killed the eldar and the Slaanesh coven] "Every tool has a shelf life. Vistenza had reached the end of hers, and so I replaced her." - Xavier Calcazar agrees
  5. [Requires: Killed the eldar but not the Slaanesh coven] "What an outrageous suggestion!" - Xavier Calcazar disagrees
  6. [Requires: Killed the eldar but not the Slaanesh coven] [Lower your voice] "I have been pondering this myself. I cannot deny the possibility that Vistenza... influenced my thinking somehow." - Xavier Calcazar disagrees
  7. [Requires: Killed the eldar but not the Slaanesh coven] "I used her to deal with a more serious threat — the xenos. Now I need Vistenza no longer, and I will, naturally, neutralise her." - Xavier Calcazar agrees
  8. [Requires: Killed the eldar but not the Slaanesh coven] "I am watching her. Just as you have been watching me, I gather." - Xavier Calcazar agrees
  9. [Requires: Allied with the eldar] "An alliance with xenos? What nonsensical gossip!" - Xavier Calcazar disagrees
  10. [Requires: Allied with the eldar] "In the face of heresy, the xenos seemed like acceptable allies to me. There have been precedents for this, correct?" - Xavier Calcazar agrees
  11. [Requires: Allied with the eldar] "I have the right to strike deals with xenos. Are you challenging my privileges as a Rogue Trader?" - Xavier Calcazar disagrees

When asking about Kiava Gamma:

  1. "My protectorate is a complex mechanism. I wasn't willing to put its performance at risk because of some paranoid fears." - Xavier Calcazar disagrees
  2. "Truly? I must confess, this is the first time I'm hearing about this. My servants usually handle such matters." - Xavier Calcazar disagrees
  3. "Let the priesthood to which Cubis Delphim belonged answer for his crimes. The Adeptus Mechanicus would do well to watch their members more closely." - Xavier Calcazar disagrees
  4. "I wish to observe how the seeds of corruption will behave. It is prudent to study one's enemy." - Xavier Calcazar disagrees
  5. "If I have erred, I am willing to repent and cast the colony into the fire." - Xavier Calcazar agrees
  6. [Requires: Purified the planet] "I made every effort and saw to it that every seed of heresy was exterminated. The world of Kiava Gamma is tainted no more, I can vouch for that." - Xavier Calcazar agrees

When asking about Dargonis:

  1. [Lore (Imperium)] "Xenos made more attempts on Saint Drusus's life than mine. Does that make him a traitor too?" - Xavier Calcazar agrees
  2. "I am waging a war on the xenos, a war to the death. My worlds are being plundered and desolated. If that brands me an apostate, then I invite you to be my judge." - Xavier Calcazar agrees
  3. "What can I say? I'm lucky, that's the reason I'm alive." - Xavier Calcazar disagrees
  4. "I admit no guilt. But I agree that it does seem suspicious." - Xavier Calcazar agrees

If you destroyed the chaos cogitator an Kiava Gamma before Heinrix had the chance to examine it and make his choice you will gain a fourth question from Xavier Calcazar:

  1. "I saved the people. It is my Emperor-given duty." - Xavier Calcazar agrees
  2. "The machine held dark and dangerous knowledge. If anyone had laid their hands on that foulness, it would have caused nothing but harm." - Xavier Calcazar disagrees
  3. "I apologise. I overstepped when I interfered in the Inquisition's investigation." - Xavier Calcazar agrees
  4. "It truly was a misstep. It was only afterward that I was able to appreciate the... intriguing nature of the data." - Xavier Calcazar agrees
  5. "I will not have anyone tell me which heretical abominations I may eradicate on my own — MY OWN — planet, and which I may not!" - Xavier Calcazar disagrees
  6. [Laugh inanely and somewhat sheepishly] "Should I not have done that? I don't recall van Calox forbidding me to touch it." - Xavier Calcazar disagrees

If Heirix was killed Xavier Calcazar asks you about it. Regardless of your answer he will disagree.

The inquisitor will also bring up other things that may have happened during the exploration but those do not affect his opinion. Finally he will either praise you or threaten you. Then he will gift you a ring.

Afterwards you will have the following ways to reply:

  1. "Is this ring all the favour that House von Valancius can expect from the Inquisition?" - if you have Black Signet of the Inquisition this dialogue option will require a Commerce test and will give +2 Complacency, Efficiency and Security to all colonies
  2. [Bow your head respectfully] "On behalf of my house, I, {name} von Valancius, hereby promise and guarantee to offer the Inquisition any assistance it may require. The Emperor protects!" - if you have Black Signet of the Inquisition you can gain Xavier Calcazar's trust in chapter 4
  3. [Requires: Dogmatic - Adherent] [Drop to one knee] "Lord Inquisitor, it would be the greatest honour to swear an oath of loyalty to you and to join the ranks of the Inquisition." - gives Interrogator's Dagger and you can gain Xavier Calcazar's trust in chapter 4
  4. [Smile] "I see no reason to refuse such a generous offer." - if you have Black Signet of the Inquisition you can gain Xavier Calcazar's trust in chapter 4
  5. "I don't want to have any dealings with you." - cannot gain Xavier Calcazar's trust in chapter 4
  6. "If you want me as your ally, you can request an audience and repeat everything you just said in public." - cannot gain Xavier Calcazar's trust in chapter 4
  7. [Requires: Chose the hostile dialogue option at the beginning] [Attack Calcazar] "Here is my answer." - cannot gain Xavier Calcazar's trust in chapter 4

On the section of speaking with Abelard and the group of nobles, the following is incorrect as it entirely depends on whom you chose to have stand with you earlier, specificly this section: "What were you discussing just now?" - if you keep talking about the xenos subject and at the end pick "Since young Gaprak is so inspired by the thought of conducting business with xenos, I shall take him into my service as a trade representative. His house shall see to it that he makes himself useful and that his service is beyond reproach." it will increase standing with the Gaprak family and Vicent Gaprak will join on the voidship bridge"

Least if you chose Heinrix to stand with you Sauerback will comment and talk about his hate for Xenos get option to take his zeal and less than thought out words to "requisition" him and soldiers where he'd personally be leading them there is no option to have Vincent join you in this case.
