Rogue Trader Spiders in a Jar Walkthrough
This quest begins as soon as you enter the Mundus Valancius system. You will be asked whether to visit Dargonus immediately or later but the answer does not matter - you can take as long or as little as you want.
Head for Dargonus. If Pasqal has not been permanently removed then there will be a Adeptus Mechanicus Ship above Dargonus. When you approach it you will have to meet on the ship with an Adeptus Mechanicus group led by a tech-priest called Tarzus, who will demand that you hand over Pasqal. During the conversation there will be a few skill checks to gain additional experience. Regardless of the conversation choices, a fight will start against Tarzus and most of the tech-priests and servitors that are with him. After the fight you can speak with Pasqal again on the voidship but there will be no new quests for now. Scan Dargonus and land at Von Valancius Palace. There will be no combat so the selected companions do not matter but Abelard and to a lesser extend Pasqal will offer some additional dialogue if they're in the party.
You start with the map revealed so you can use it to find the two chests that are present on the map. On the left side there is a fountain with a hidden pouch you can discover with enough Awareness and loot. Then enter the palace.
Inside the palace, go to the bottom of the stairs and loot the box there. Then, on the right side after you climb the stairs, there is a door that will lead to your room. Walk next to all walls as there are multiple hidden objects you can discover and loot. In the bedroom there is a switch highlighted that you can use to open a hidden door leading to Theodora's treasure room. There are a lot of chests you can loot here. If you know about the data cache on Dargonus from the Classified Information quests here is where you will do the puzzle to obtain it.
Go to the throne room, where there are a few more chests to loot including a hidden one at the base of the statue on the left. Then go to the north-eastern corner where you will find Achilleas Scalander. Talk with him, then go speak with Clementia Werserian and tell her you're ready to see the governor.
You will be taken to your room where you will speak with Governor Urbend Drivestem. You will have the following dialogue options:
- "Theodora von Valancius deserves more than that! You will declare a full year of mourning."
- "There is no need. I am the new ruler of the protectorate — let my subjects rejoice at my arrival instead." - decreases standing with Drivestem family
- "It's all the same to me. Do as you see fit."
If you talk with him about Kunrad Voigtvir you will receive the following dialogue options:
- [Dogmatic] "Subject all who have dared to make heretical remarks about the Rogue Trader to Servitude Imperpituis. Machines aren't prone to dissidence."
- [Iconoclast] "My subjects' doubts are understandable — too many things have changed in too short a span. I will prove myself worthy of my position."
- [Heretical] "Publicly rip out the vocal cords and tongues of every slanderer and replace them with vox-implants that sing the praises of Rogue Trader {name} von Valancius without interruption. I should think that will serve as a reminder of who rules this world."
- "I couldn't care less about what people think of me. I am Theodora's successor whether they like it or not."
At the end of the conversation you will be asked to choose a noble house to represent you during the inauguration.
Major choice: The choice will affect standing with the noble houses. Sufficient standing with them will provide a reward at the beginning of chapter 3.
- "There is no need to alter any traditions. The dynasty will be represented by House Drivestem." - increases standing with Drivestem family, decreases standing with Werserian family
- "House Gaprak will represent the new Rogue Trader." - increases standing with Gaprak family
- "House Sauerback will carry out this duty." - increases standing with Sauerback family
- "I suppose I will bestow this honour upon the Werserians." - increases standing with Werserian family, decreases standing with Drivestem family
- "I don't care. Just don't fight too hard over the bone."
The quest will be concluded after the conversation. This will solve an objective from the Reclaim What Was Lost quest and begin the Blades in the Void quest.
